LCH Student Katelyn Williams

A Hero Among Us

Liberty Creek High School senior Katelyn Williams was recognized Thursday, March 20th by 杏巴原创 Mayor Jamie Clary and Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown for her incredible act of bravery鈥攕aving a man's life!

Katelyn was not originally scheduled to work that night at the 杏巴原创 County YMCA, but when she was called in, she didn鈥檛 hesitate to step up. That decision put her in the right place at the right time. When a man was found unresponsive, she immediately performed CPR, and with the help of an AED and two bystanders, worked to resuscitate him before EMS arrived.

In a full-circle moment, the man she saved, Billy Austin, had spent his younger years training YMCA lifeguards in CPR and water safety including students Katelyn鈥檚 age. He never imagined that years later, a young YMCA employee would be the one to save his life.

Katelyn鈥檚 YMCA boss, her family, and Billy鈥檚 family were all in attendance to celebrate this remarkable moment. Even more fitting, today鈥檚 proclamations took place in front of all Liberty Creek HOSA students鈥攆uture healthcare professionals who will carry on the life-saving skills that Katelyn demonstrated so courageously. Katelyn鈥檚 quick thinking and bravery are a true testament to how students across 杏巴原创 County Schools are becoming #杏巴原创Ready鈥攑repared to lead, serve, and make a difference.

Join us in celebrating Katelyn as she receives official proclamations and a key to the city!
